Sim's Park
Coonoor's terraced botanical garden is the town's centrepiece — a compact, beautifully landscaped park with more than 1,000 species of plants, winding paths, a small lake and shaded lawns. It was established in 1874 and named after a former Coonoor club secretary. In May, the annual fruit & vegetable show fills the park with giant produce and prize blooms — a genuinely local event worth timing your trip around.

Dolphin's Nose
A dramatic rock promontory that juts out over the valley, named for its shape. The viewpoint sits at the end of a short walk from the parking area; the last stretch is a little exposed, so hold onto the railings and keep children close.

Lamb's Rock
One of the best valley viewpoints in the Nilgiris. It's reached by a short, easy walk from the parking area and is a favourite for sunrise and sunset — though the best light is usually the morning.

Tea factory tours & tasting
Tea is Coonoor's soul, and the best way to understand it is to walk a factory floor. Highfield Tea Factory (on the way to Dolphin's Nose) runs guided tours that take you from fresh leaf to the finished cup — withering, rolling, oxidation and firing — followed by a tasting of single-estate Nilgiri teas. Other estates around Coonoor offer similar experiences; check current timings and bookings before you go, as they change.

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (toy train)
The famous blue toy train is a UNESCO World Heritage railway and one of the most scenic rides in India. From Mettupalayam it climbs 2,600 m of rack-and-pinion track through tea gardens, tunnels and over steel viaducts to Ooty. Coonoor is a perfect base: ride the full climb, or hop the shorter, equally scenic Ooty–Coonoor section.
